The Red Shoes Cover
I love the story of the red shoes. I wanted to make a cover/Poster style peice that I could have some extra fun with in the stylings of her in relation to the story, but also giving extra elements that added to the storytelling in a somewhat subtle but notable way. Example: the butterfly theming for her outfit, this is inspired by the notion of the butterfly effect that I thought also visually would give another level of whimsicality to her. Similar whimsicalness that I got from watching the red shoes of 1948. Additionally while wanting to reflect the madness of the shoes I thought it interesting as shoes to take on a life of their own almost possessing the dancer, I added intentionally a cat like reflection to the eyes. However stylistically to the appliqués I also added in embellishments that were reminiscent to the torture device known as the iron maiden. Not only did I think it would add visual interest but also be very resonant to the story and narratively how the shoe end up fitting in relation story-wise to our main character. As for typography that is inspired by the Grady Hendrix Paperbacks From Hell Collection.
