Willows of The Fae
Willows of The Fae I created in my sophomore year. I really wanted to capture a dark fantasy whimsicality overall for this piece while maintaining a poster/cover format. The border as well as is inspired by art nouveau mixed with wild style graffiti and the preserved Paperbacks From Hell Grady Hendrix book collection. An example, of what I find to be very interesting plays with typography while trying to incorporate more of my own hand drawn type, though still growing in skill, into my own works. I also really wanted to incorporate at the time into a piece some recent patterning from vintage children's clothes patterns that had inspired me. Primarily as I am someone who loves to share nuggets of vintage fashion, especially the darling sailor collar and butterfly barrettes were my favorite thinking back to what me and my friends also used to wear when we were little. With the little girl I also wanted to depict just this absolute childlike wonder and awe of a new world to be explored and the magic that may lie beyond the willow.
SIDE NOTE: soon an official mood board shall be added to this to give a visualization to my visual references I have alluded to
